Halych National Nature Park

Ivano-Frankivsk region

About park

Halych National Nature Park stretches out along the charming Dniester River on glorious princely lands. This is the place of splendid landscapes and natural treasures.

You will be fascinated by unique beech forests with karst rocks and caves, picturesque landmarks and waterbodies. A true treasure is hidden amid the forest – a mysterious deep-water karst lake Simlyn.

Unique plants such as Cypripedium calceolus, the lesser butterfly-orchid (Platanthera bifolia), the martagon lily (Lilium martagon) and the bee orchid (Ophrys apifera), one of the rarest orchids of Ukraine, grow in the park.

Don’t forget your binoculars when going to the Dniester River and Burshtyn Water Reservoir for watching the birds. The warm water is the favourite place for the Chiloé wigeon (Anas sibilatrix), the common pochard (Aythya farina), the barnacle goose (Branta leucopsis), the common goldeneye (Bucephala clangula), the cormorant (Phalacrocorax) and the great egret (Ardea alba). Many of them stay there for overwintering.

You will found out about all the natural wonders of the park in the local museum “The Nature of Halych Land”. Also, there is a Wild Animals Recovery Centre where animals and birds that have become “orphans” or got injured and are unable to live in the wild are treated. Almost two hundred animals have already returned in their natural habitat after rehabilitation. Those who need constant human assistance stay in the Centre. The white stork (Ciconia ciconia), the long-legged buzzard (Buteo rufinus), the kestrel, the long-eared owl (Asio otus), the fox (Vulpes Vulpes), the red deer (Cervus elaphus), the European hare (Lepus europaeus) and the European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis) are the most numerous animals represented there.
