Carpathian Biosphere Reserve

Transcarpathian region

About reserve

This is the nature undisturbed by humans, the world’s largest solid primary beech forest area. Please, hold your breath: this is the place where 500-year-old and 45-meter-high beeches grow. Researches from all over the world come to study them. There, Ukraine’s highest Mount Hoverla pierces through the clouds, and Brebeneskul Lake reflects the sky in its mirror-like water among the mountains. This is the place where the Marmaroshi rise high. There is the Svydovets Range covered with lakes left by glaciers as well as the glorified Chornohora Range. And what a fascinating ritual of contemplating alpine flowers in the Narcissus Valley!

This is the home to more than 8000 species of animals and plants, 500 of which need special attention as they are listed in the Red Book of rare species of Ukraine. There, you can stand in the immediate centre of Europe, and a few hours later explore the caves in which the first humans lived.

This is the place where dozens of thousands of tourists unveil the incredible beauty of integral co-existence of nature while hiking, riding bikes or even horses. Surely, they do it carefully and follow the allowed trails so as not to harm the nature. This is the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve.
