Sumy region
The vegetation of the Stara Huta forests has many taiga features. Pine and deciduous forests predominate here. In pine forests, a lot of light comes to the ground through the openwork crowns, thanks to which blueberries and other juicy berries ripen here, becoming food for many forest dwellers and a dainty for travellers. In Stara Huta forest area there is a large population of capercaillies, hazel grouses, black grouses. Elks, lynx, European bisons, and brown bears are captured by camera traps here.
The nature of the Desna part of the park is completely different. In the floodplain of Desna, there are wide meadows with tall grass, old trees, straits; ash, oak and aspen small woods. The lakes in the oxbow lakes are littered with bright flowers of dwarf white water lilies and yellow water lilies. 35 rare plant species grow in the national nature park, and the diversity of birds is the most impressive. In spring and autumn, thousands of flocks of geese, ducks, cranes, storks and swans make a stop here. Fish treasures of Desna are countless. In general, the park is a home to 97 rare animal species.
