Prypiat-Stokhid National Nature Park

Volyn region

About park

The Prypiat and Stokhid Rivers are miraculous rivers with numerous beds, branches, backwaters and oxbow lakes. These rivers are surrounded with swamps, blue-eyed lakes, dunes and meadows that all together harmoniously create the flamboyant landscapes of Polissia. By kayaking or rowing on the beautiful Prypiat or on the “hundred ways” of its tributaries, you will get to the authentic Svalovychi village which has preserved its archaic style and it certainly is a real gold mine for ethnographers. It seems as if time has stopped here: the wooden houses have reed roofs, and each corner breathes with antiquity there. There is a wooden observation tower on the outskirts of the village. The wonderful panorama it offers shows the place where the Prypiat and Stokhid Rivers meet.

Enthusiasts of water activities will be amused with the festival of extreme water tourism called “Polissia Regatta”. Fans of the traditional Ukrainian cuisine will be surprised by the tastes of archaic culinary culture of Polissia such as fish dried in the oven. Bird-watching lovers have an opportunity to see the rare azure tit (Cyanistes cyanus) and aquatic warbler (Acrocephalus paludicola) through their binoculars. In forests, you can meet elks or wild boars; there are also beavers on the rivers and lakes. Real aesthetic pleasure awaits the admirers of aquatic flora — there grow white water lilies (Nymphaea alba) and dwarf white water lilies (Nymphaea candida) as well as yellow water lilies (Nuphar lutea).
