Synevyr National Nature Park

Transcarpathian region

About park

Synevyr Lake is the largest mountain lake of Ukraine. Though it is absolutely a showpiece of the park, this place is worth visiting not only because of this waterbody. There are enchanting mountains, crystal clear waterfalls, rivers and lakes, protected wetlands and primary forests included to the UNESCO World Heritage List, too.

The unique for Ukraine rehabilitation centres for brown bears and birds of prey are open for visitors. In the wild, in addition to bears, you can also meet wolves, lynx, deer and roe deer. There, the capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) and hazel grouse (Tetrastes bonasia) nest in the spruce-fir forests, the black and white storks (Ciconia ciconia & nigra) land on the peatlands, and the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) hover high in the sky.

You should also come to the Synevyr Park to explore the Carpathian soul — the local culture. There you will see the tools of timber raftsmen in the Timber Rafting Museum which is the only one in Europe and the second in the world. You will learn the lifestyle and traditions of the tercentenary antiquity in the Old Village Museum and observe the defensive bunkers of the Arpad Line used by the Hungarian army during World War II.
