Mykolaiv region
The flowering golden feather grass (Stipa pulcherrima), the silver waves of which can be seen in spring and early summer, is the jewel of the reserve steppe and its “brand identity”. The diversity of plants in all seasons creates a unique beauty of the reserve’s landscapes, paints them in different colours, and decorates it with fragrant flowering herbs.
There are few large animals among the fauna of Yelanets Steppe, because the territory of the reserve is not very large. However, you will still meet giant animals here. For example, an American bison. Its height can reach 2 metres and weight – more than a ton. About forty years ago, three animals were brought here from the Askania-Nova Biosphere Reserve. Here they live under semi-free conditions in the enclosure (a fenced area of the steppe with an area of about 70 ha). Now, the number of bison is 25 individuals. Visit Yelanets Steppe Reserve, get acquainted with these giants and feel the beauty and depth of the Ukrainian steppe.
