Roztochia Nature Reserve

Lviv region

About reserve

Roztochia is a magnificent place located on the main European watershed close to Male Polissia, Prykarpattia and Podillia. It absorbed the features of all these regions. Here you will see the primeval beech forests resembling the primary Carpathian forests, lakes, ponds, swamps peculiar to Polissia, oak forests and meadows typical for Podillia, and also unique European pine-oak forests that don’t grow anywhere else in Ukraine. You will be able to admire one of the largest lakes in Lviv region called Yanivskyi Stav from Koroleva Hill — the place of Polish kings’ recreation.

This nature reserve is of great value for preservation of unique flora and fauna. Here is the Museum of Roztochia Nature which cooperates with pupils, students and scientists, organizes excursions for visitors along educational trails. Yanivskyi Stav Lake is known as a rest spot during migration and overwintering for numerous bird species.

Travelling through Roztochia, you will see small rivers, some of which roll their waters into the Black Sea and others flow into the Baltic Sea.

In the vicinity of the reserve, there is the Stradch Cave Monastery, the museum of wood carving and the arboretum.
