Zacharovanyi Krai National Nature Park (“Enchanted Land”)

Transcarpathian region

About park

Would you like to walk through extinct volcanoes places and see rocks about 5-6 million years old? Welcome to the Zacharovanyi Krai National Nature Park! Here you will find Smerekovyi Kamin (“Spruce Stone”), resembling the top of a spruce. There is also Tron (“Throne”), Rozkolotyi Kamin (“Split Stone”) here. All these rocks were formed at a time when active volcanic activity was raging on the planet. They have been here since then, sharpened by wind and water, frost and sun, acquiring bizarre shapes that amaze our imagination. This is an extremely picturesque place for a relaxing holiday in harmony with nature. Wonderful combinations of old-growth forest with small mountains and bizarre rocks, transparent waters of mountain streams and hospitality of Transcarpathia will definitely enchant you. The slopes of the local mountains are very steep and hard to reach; therefore, people did not build houses here. This helped to preserve nature in virtually primeval state. Тhe territory of the park is mostly covered with dense forests. And beech stands are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At an altitude of 820-860 meters there is a unique sphagniopratum – Chorne Bahno (“Black Bog”), the deepest (6-7 meters) peat moss bog in the Ukrainian Carpathians. Many rare plants grow in the bog: The small cranberry (Vaccinium oxycoccos) and Vaccinium microcarpum, the common sundew (Drosera rotundifolia), Schoenus ferrugineus. Zacharovanyi Krai has become a hospitable home for many animals, including 38 rare species. Among them there is a European beaver (Castor fiber), a European wildcat (Felis silvestris), and a lynx. 29 species of rare plants are also found here.
Visit this place once and you will definitely want to come back!
